As always, we try to use this blog post to speak from our experience as a learning technology partner to organizations that provide continuing education and professional development. Less abstractly, the CE business of non-profit associations is threatened by for-profit CE providers that undercut the associations’ prices.

SumTotal is calling their product a Human Capital Management system. Sure, they offer a separate LMS called SumTotal Maestro, but their TM has surprisingly (not really) been morphed into a HCM, will others follow? Oracle then followed suit by acquiring SuccessFactors who had acquired Plateau in the past. They are a HCM.

One competitor purchased a VLP as a key component, SAP purchased SuccessFactors, a recruiting system initially turned HCM, who had acquired Plateau, a strong but awful UI/UX LMS. SuccessFactors constantly stated they would invest heavily into Plateau and initially, vast improvement was to be found. LMS is dead or dying.

For example, Calendly (leading provider of scheduling software) raised < $500K to reach $100M+ in ARR before whereas other companies may have raised $400M to reach the same revenue scale. Q: Is there a typical percentage or requirements that a PE, Growth Equity or VC will ask for if they offer to provide capital to a vendor (supplier)?
