What I am finding is that AICC is nearly gone in the LEP space (as it is with LMSs too), so if I was you, I’d seek SCORM, SCORM 1.2, The unknown of course is when a person goes to a web site to read an article, whether the system can tell if they actually read the whole article or skimmed it, or was on the site for like five seconds.

There are three types of systems that slide under “learning platforms” The most common one supports PowerPoint, and videos and other content – and can track it, but they DO NOT support any version of SCORM, nor do they support AICC, PENS, Tin Can and so on. So you have to use their authoring tool to create courses.

One of the most interesting items which presents to me an unknown variable is CMI-5, a compliance standard (formally with AICC) now headed up by ADL. That said, everything is showing an increase into the usage of xAPI among LMS vendors, especially those with mobile that goes beyond just viewing via the net through your mobile web browser. #2

Mobile – as in you can see it in a mobile web browser. Some type of learning environment online (I know a shocker huh?).

In 2005, PENS was launched by AICC but did not initially gain wide acceptance. Unfortunately web based technologies, without the use of proprietary plugins, simply couldn’t compete on that level and people didn’t want to sacrifice development capabilities for the advantages of collaboration.
