Me: Im an instructional designer. Im sort of distracted by the naked boy who just ran by (not mine). Now, I say that I write training manuals for companies, and then I quickly mention the different delivery methods for training (as examples). billbrandon had this comment on Twitter: I usually just tell em Im a writer.

Im struck by why I find this topic so interesting. The reason researchers roll their eyes at learning styles is the utter failure to find that assessing childrens learning and matching to instructional methods has any effect on their learning." Best to apply universally sound methods to enhance learning.

I thought Patrick Dunn did a nice job presenting the difference between e-learning designers of the "last century" who follow the addie method to create courses (click me, read me) and thus bored learners, vs. todays e-learning designers who "create experiences". The Dump and Pray Method My Granny followed the dump and pray method of cooking. Admittedly, I never had the pleasure or displeasure of sampling her menus, so I cant say if this method worked for her, but Ive found it works for me in the kitchen. The dump and pray method works best when you understand your audience.

Im not just thinking about the gadgets and the gizmos that you use or the instructional design "method" behind the process (e.g., Im excellent at creating ridiculous rhymes and ditties for my kids; I think I could come up with something interesting for a course. Im delighted that youre finding value in all of my ramblings.
