The Advent of Mobile Learning Technology

Upside Learning

It seems the younger members of the workforce prefer synchronous (real-time) collaboration tools over asynchronous tools. In the future of collaboration in the workplace, tools like IM along with other real-time applications will gradually replace email. “May we live in interesting times” –Chinese Proverb. It’s amazing to see an accelerating rate of change leading up to what is now generally accepted as the true beginning of the ‘age of collaboration’.

T weet chats, telephone conversations, IMs, coffee time discussions – any and all of these can be micro-learning Micro-learning can be formally designed and built into learning programs in various forms or it can occur as informal exchanges of knowledge and information either online or face-to-face. The optimum solution may then be to reduce the required instructor-led training through the use of on-line (asynchronous) prep courses. A viable solution might be on-line, live (synchronous) instructor-led training combined with an easily updateable on-line reference library of sales support material and current promotional materials. Synchronous e-Learning. It should also be pointed out that it is possible to include video as part of the synchronous e-learning environment.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Instructional Design and Market Sector Differences

Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. Learning Visions

Im wondering if we should be talking about tiers of instructional design. Craft distance learning events for college credit that pull together elements of both asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences. Today Im feeling more like a hazy purple. Im wondering if in the carpentry example if a master carpenter would agree with you? Im sure a master carpenter wouldnt think so highly of the table I were to make should I take on such a project.

Learning Visions

Im curious what other folks experiences has been. Im so happy to see you post this up. Im struggling with this right now. Im not on to trying to source another college or university to try out. You might ask, what do I think about when Im shoveling? Well, its a bit out of my budget for the moment; however, Im going to Hawaii in another sense this spring. All the presenters and attendees stay in their current locations yet everyone joins together in synchronous and asynchronous activities for three days (April 15-17, 2008).

The Ultimate Glossary of eLearning Terms

Asynchronous Learning. Asynchronous learning allows learners to train individually, enabling them to complete courses at a time, place and pace that suits them. The primary purpose of the LTI standard, created by the IMS Global Learning Consortium, is to connect learning systems, such as an LMS, with external service tools. A type of asynchronous instruction, self-paced learning allows learners to control the pace and timing of their progress through course materials.
