Vendors can move up, down or out of the rankings – after all it is on-going. Rankings are based on my directories which are updated monthly; I also keep a separate directory which will contain more vendors than listed within the visible directories – reason being it offers clients (those who hire me – buyers to have an added bonus, of course it contains much more info); that said the monthly directories provide key info and in future updates have new columns added.

On Fire in 2013 – What’s going to be hot in e-learning

eLearning 24-7

I believe that you can expect some type of voice capability with the actors/avatars as in the ability to either lip synch with the characters via audio tool/recording tool in the product will show up more in 2013. One vendor already offers it in 2012, and knowing this industry – if something takes off and works, others will follow. One vendor told me they will incorporate it when it becomes certified – uh systems and authoring tools can be certified not a standard.

Psst. You wanna buy some features?

eLearning 24-7

LMS vendors are continuing to add some very unique features in an effort to set themselves apart from the competition. Desktop sharing (appears with a few vendors). One click SMB edition to Enterprise. Video and audio streaming. Video and movie streaming (basically video streaming is growing). Section 508 (still shocking at the lack of vendors that fail to offer this feature). more common is partnering with a web conferencing vendor).

I mean ever&# , from a senior executive at a mid to large size vendor that has been in the market for several years. Across the board, a large number of vendors (from small to large) saw increases in their quarter numbers. Identify the problem, the vendor too.

Top 10 LMS/LCMS Trends and Forecasts

The trends apply to both LMS/LCMS vendors. Extended Enterprise - Vendors are expanding into the wholesaler/reseller/affiliates/sales agent sector with their solutions. The note of interest is that it is occurring with all size of vendors, albeit the charge is being led by mid size vendors. Not all of the big dog vendors have entered this space, despite it being a huge revenue opportunity. and European vendors interestingly enough, do not follow suit.

Low Cost LMSs – Yes, u can find one for under 10K

eLearning 24-7

For those who charge with storage – storage includes all courses, files – including your audio, video, images and documents. Any vendor, who includes a set storage fee, should be able to provide you a range of number of courses – with examples and video/audio files – if you plan to use them. Many vendors’ sites do not state this information in their pricing. The argument that you have to spend over 50K to find a sweet LMS is totally bogus.

Social Learning and LMSs Marketplace

eLearning 24-7

As social learning continues to grow, LMS/LCMS vendors are taking various approaches. LMS/LCMS vendors are following one of three approaches when it comes to social learning. In any other market, the goal is to be number one, yet for whatever reason, in this market when it comes to social learning, there are a significant number of vendors, who would rather just sit on the sidelines. Time for these vendors to wake up, or see your audience share disappear.

Learning Systems RFP and Tier4 NexGen

eLearning 24-7

When see the template you are going to be like “this is a lot of features and categories, no vendor will complete all of this.” Vendors who gripe, clearly have never experienced a 10 page or more RFI/RFP (and high page RFPs are common). . There are vendors who achieved a perfect score for Tier 3, and there are some now who have many Tier 4, just not all of them. Thus, if there is something you see in the Tier4 level, be aware that vendor may not have it. .

More and more vendors are calling themselves digital learning platforms (DLP). There are a few vendors who say, that “most popular” is only based on that learner and what they are taking – but again, if it is assigned, and to me specifically, I’m going to be taking it. . Vendors in this space want into the B2B/B2C (customer education, partner education, aka Extended Enterprise -EXE) market (includes associations).

Mobile Learning – Is it melting away?

eLearning 24-7

Not smartphones, not even close (despite the best efforts of many vendors then and even now). . There are plenty of vendors who do NOT support the latest versions of iOS and Android – and on a side note, I found two vendors who told me that they didn’t support the latest versions – and it was only after I asked them. . Clearly someone forgot to tell these vendors, that video chows up a lot of data.

Are learning experiences only for an LXP?

Now, they have dumped iTunes and split into three different streams of content for purchase, yet still sell hardware and oh yeah, an operating system. LXPs will often note that they are more than just courses – they offer resources – workbooks, materials, audio, video, even podcasts (starting to appear but as links to podcast sites for the most part). There are LMS vendors who offer resources via 3rd party providers, just as the LXPs offer.

NextGen LMS Features (Now and Later)
