Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. Having just a bachelors degree seems to be fine as long as you arent working directly for the universities (Im not sure about K-12 online). What do you do?

A great example: I will not learn as well if you give me page after page of text with zillions of details. I prefer to get the big picture view first, and often a diagram or metaphor will do that for me. Take learning a piece of software. Jean, You make some great points about learning styles. They bore me to tears.

"Emerging" = kinds of e-learning that are just starting to show up -- in labs, new company offerings. In the 90s there were one or two ways to do e-Learning: CDRoms and then the web. Pages and pictures and some sound and we turned the pages and took a test. This was "e-Learning 1.0". A big explosion in the last 2 years.

I prep the script and send it off for audio production (weve been working with an excellent independent guy with his own studio who can churn this stuff out!) Sometimes have to record new audio. Oh, except Im the developer and audio engineer too. And Im "lucky" enough to have access to the software. You never know.

I have a lot of issues with the whole "seat time" model (and Im thinking about sit and click style eLearning here of the self-paced variety): My seat time may be different than yours Is there supplemental material, like reading, that is optional -- or that might vary per user? Another side of the picture is overall time versus chunking.
