So most folks – clients will refer to their industry, rather than say, “our vertical is”, but with vendors in the e-learning space, and especially with learning systems, internally they usually refer to it as “vertical” This is by far not across the board, and some use both terms. Outside vendors can offer a neutral vision, and don’t have competing responsibilities diluting their focus. A vendor can come in, make recommendations, and execute the project quickly and efficiently, sometimes before an internal team could get the project off the ground. It would be nice if they just didn’t, and actually provided a new design/format for course development that was still easy (for beginners) to do engaging and interactive content, rather than using PPT as the crutch if you will. Equation tool – I’ve seen more vendors add this thing – and unless you are in education I can’t see why you would use it. These platforms include either gamification, social authoring or a combination of the two. Product is strong for both beginners and instructional designers. Themes, interactions.

Bewildered on what is happening, why what is needed isn’t appearing as it should, and how is it possible that something so obvious based on where e-learning is heading, mobile is pushing and future tech is inspiring is lost among so many vendors? And therein lies one of the issues, that is showing up with many, many vendors.
