Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. Built in audio, image and video tools, enables this to be a one stop service, thus eliminating the need to use Camtasia and alike. . If they are stale – seriously do you deserve to the best?

PowerPoint still reigns – If you are a course purist, the idea that PPT should be seen as an authoring tool should make you grumble with disgust. . Techsmith – Camtasia 8. iSpring Pro but it only converts PPT to HTML5. Articulate has told me that they have an issue with Windows 8 for both Storyline and Studio, but are working on fixing it. At least they are doing something. Desktop authoring tool vendors who realized this thing was fast approaching are: Articulate.

Some lower-end, PPT + Audio tools will do well with none winning huge shares of the marketplace. And in the Rapid eLearning Tools space, I left out Camtasia which is great for screencasting. Interestingly, they both were originally considered rapid authoring tools but now are becoming THE authoring tools.

Doceo – They are the only other vendor besides Camtasia (no less) that offers a product for capturing video, then video/audio editing and next pushing it as a course. Camtasia Studio by TechSmith – Best video quasi authoring tool out there. On a mobile device that is, it is an app. The app is called SkillCatch. .
