Corporations can "personalize" a Professional Learning Environment (aka an LMS), allowing users to add their own widgets; they can allow trainers to update a users training record; they can let the user set preferences. But that does not equal a Personal Learning Environment. And then my real life and learning begins.

Im curious what other folks experiences has been. Within the academic environment, people do care more at least about the level of the degree. I remember interviewing someone with 15 years of experience but no bachelor degree, and we had to turn her away in that university environment for the lack of degree.

One of our main products is creating customized templates for our clients; "empowering non-programmers to build e-learning." Our tools still require the user to work in the Flash environment, but you really dont need to know Flash. If youre providing SMEs with the templates, Im not sure theyll be altering them.

Im not sure how this relates to danah boyds recent blog article on Viewing American class divisions through FaceBook and MySpace. Im a major geek, yet I avoid Second Life and continue to be skeptical about its use in elearning. This is a main way of staying connected to friends. A couple of people also had MySpace accounts.
