I know Totara is going to say that the product is built on open source and the folks who are buying it know the technical aspects/Moodle and thus this isn’t an issue. Two sweet functions that are in the Totara system are Anti-Virus in the security section and “Spam Cleaner” in the reports section. Bottom Line.

I’d say they are clearly meeting the demands of today’s business and educational needs (for those systems targeting that market). Even those who offer a pure open source system are meeting the needs of some businesses and educational institutions. Learning management systems are growing at a huge rate.

Even more important, a learning management system was a new concept, so having to ask for X, when your budget has always been Y, isn’t an easy sell, especially when ROI is discussed. True, people are selecting open source systems, and for the majority of them, it is Moodle. Moodle Syndrome.

Based on my research, 92% of LMSs in my directory of 455 systems, have SaaS systems. Even one time open source systems are starting to offer hosting for an additional cost. For vendors who offer unlimited, I am sure it is doing well for you and is a big positive for you. The rest host on your own servers. .
