I somewhat understand why MySpace might get blocked (28%) but given how many people are using Facebook for business connections, blocking it at almost the same rate is a little bit of a surprise. It's such an amazing resource to find expertise and get answers. Of course, factor in that 2.6% tell us that Wikipedia is blocked.

Certainly, the conversations and the finding of expertise via social networks such as LinkedIn is a big part of their use. Here in Brazil, people are more familiar with Orkut or Myspace.

There's an internal version of MySpace, which provides not only title and contact info but also personal profiles, job histories, interests, and videos. Great way to find expertise and resources. If an employee is tagged as the go-to person for virtualization, say, he could earn a bonus for this previously unacknowledged expertise.

George Siemens agrees with my assessment about the need for platforms or aggregation, but tells us in Scaling the Social Web that as for the large social networking sites, he's: tried them all (facebook, myspace, bebo, orkut, linkedin, twitter, etc.) and then resume the more ad hoc mixture of blogs I've been using for many years.

Probably the best approach is to be even earlier and truly be asking for expertise - where do we fit in the market. But, I'm much more likely to go see who I know or who I can reach who will have expertise. I would say that groups are way lower value than being able to search for expertise. Hold it, is that true?
