I did this: A lot of this: Some pleasure reading , which included 50% of the complete works of Jane Austen (thats three novels.but no, Im no Janeite ), Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby , Michael Pollans The Ominivores Dilemma (which only took me about four months to read, but was well worth it), Malcolm Gladwells The Tipping Point , and Barack Obamas Dreams From My Father (still in progress, but summer aint over).

I'm sitting here watching as the sun sets over the Alps, in beautiful Villach, Austria. So, I vill here my German practice: 'Der gipfel des Berges funkelt im Abendsonenschein'. The peaks are glistening, and the bell in the church is tolling. There, that impressed the pants off you didn't it? I can tell. It's from the poem Lorelei - the only German I remember from secondary school. All the rest was learned afterwards, in conversation with chattering Teutonic chappies.

As Michael Allen says in Michael Allens Guide to e-Learning : "Learners think, Im supposed to do my best to learn whatever is here, so I might as well spend all my time learning it rather than reading about learning it." (p. I want to clarify that Im not advocating that we "hide" objectives from the learner, but instead provide some alternatives to boring text bullets in the presentation of those objectives.
