Did they use Photoshop? Or, heaven forbid, Paint (not the snazzy new 3D version either). I started with the trial version of Captivate 9 and then got a licensed version of Captivate 2017 when it was released. Illustrator? Did they use Word (yes, really, Word)? Captivate. Adobe Creative Cloud. Microsoft Office.

The Professional version starts at $1,398. This software is also particularly suited for individuals already familiar with the Adobe interface through use of Photoshop or InDesign. Adobe Captivate costs $800 for a new license, or $359 for an upgrade from Captivate 5.5. A new license for Lectora starts at $2,495.

I think it’s obvious that I use Adobe Captivate and almost always have the latest version. I do also keep the previous version installed on my main system. Up to and including presently I have always purchased a perpetual license for Adobe Captivate. Until very recently, Photoshop CS5 was more than enough for my needs.

This version ($40/u/m) is geared towards the instructional designer/developer. SaaS product – but here’s the thing – if you want the course to be in your LMS – it can but it still sits on the ZZ server side and not in your system (should note that the LMS connectivity is available only in the $40/u version).
