Simultaneously, companies like Google and Yahoo have announced their intention to compete against Microsoft Exchange by offering a version of their consumer email services repurposed for business. Gmail for Domains ([link] ) and Yahoo Business Email ( [link] ) are serious competitors to the traditional email server franchise. The reason is that The Business Web will be best known for its ability to easily create composite applications, or what is now popularly known as "mash-ups.”

An activity stream is a mash-up of an individual’s or organization’s feeds. Last week, Google, Facebook, Nokia, Yahoo!, Wikipedia: nothing up yetFor example, my FriendFeed pages show activity from this blog, the Internet Time Blog, my Flickr account, bookmarks I put on Delicious, and my entries from Twitter. Tumblr operates similarly although it does a better job displaying photos and is a bit more spartan.
