For interactivity, we originally used Flash, and now have HTML 5 as a more secure and reliable replacement. After initial efforts in 1993, and bursts of energy circa 2000 and again in 2004, we’re seeing a new resurgence of activity and interest. So, does xAPI replace SCORM? . Something more was needed. This doesn’t come free.

There are also other standards like xapi, also known as an experience api (tin can api), cmi5 and AICC for advanced capabilities. The initial version of SCORM was developed and released in 2000 by the Department of Defense-sponsored Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative.

It’s been around since 2000, by the way; nothing new. And that is because, unless you have built courses for online in the past, using the more advanced authoring tools out there, OR were around during the days of Flash and course building, knowing ID wouldn’t be at the forefront of your skills. That was in 2000.
