Despite overall consumer demand (not just within e-learning) for tablets, and numbers showing that tablets are outselling notebooks, e-learning vendors as whole are sitting back and waiting. Learn Dash – a LMS on WordPress – but you must add TinCan API on your own. Increase in number of vendors.

They involved talent management, “hello and goodbye” with vendors, social learning, upswing in mobile learning, new feature sets in the authoring tool space, flat lining in web conferencing and standalone platforms. LMSs/LCMS/CMS/learning platforms in commercial and open space continued their presence.

It is the holiday season and for those who see me as the grinch (okay a few vendors do, but I digress) here is a special post. Next week, 12-12-12, will be #10 to #1 learning management systems for 2012. While their UI is very user friendly, they really haven’t done much in terms of new cool features in 2012.

billion dollars in revenue – Q3 2012 (Engadget, 2012). I loved the term that vendors started to push in 2012 and continue to do so in 2013 – “scalability” It makes me laugh. What they are trying to do is to offer an alternative to an open source platform which allows unlimited users.

In the past it was build it yourself (pricey) or find open source and customize it (could be pricey, but cheaper then complete build). The partner approach works this way: vendor A integrates Vendor B’s solution into their product. Forecast: Slow for 2012 growth. Social and Mobile Learning Platforms.

Improves video and audio quality – extensively – thus your Social Learning/Social Media experience has just increased infinitely; Vivemo, Blip.tv Open Source not Proprietary like Flash. Some camps have full HTMl5 web page development implementation somewhere around 2012-2021, which clearly is a big gap.
