The offline players that are tested at the moment: Meridian Meridian blackboard backpack Harbinger What we look at is: their possibility to be integrated in different LMS's, need to download contents, the possibility to deliver content on a cd-rom/USB, SCORM compliance, quick support system, size of the data that is synchronised, user friendliness and of course the price. At this moment the Harbinger one is definitely in the lead | CLIVE ON LEARNING AUGUST 11, 2010 When YouTube really does have to be offline FastestTube is a browser extension that currently works with Chrome, Firefox and Safari (IE version on the way). It sits in YouTube and allows you to download any video in a number of formats: This is a really useful facility. Previously I’ve used Voobys to perform this function but, by comparison, it’s a pretty untidy process. So which videos have I seen fit to download? | | | | | | | IGNATIA WEBS SEPTEMBER 29, 2010 Enable Learning Anywhere with World’s First Portable LMS A lot of us use LMS’s to get our documents across to the students, to track quality of content, to provide self-assessments… but on many occasions one of the key restrictions of the LMS’s is their lack of offline capabilities and autonomy. Sure, some offline LMS options are on the market and have improved over the years, but still a plug-in build option is not the same as a solution that was build to be portable. In these kinds of cases, offline access can be a godsend, allowing the learner to download the course into a native app when they do have Internet access, then they can take the course offline, then sync back up to the learning management system when they are back online. Since we launched our rapid mobile learning authoring tool, mLearning Studio™ , we have been working on an offline delivery platform called mLearning Sync™, soon to go to beta (stay tuned). Do you need offline access for your mobile learning deliver? How about you? mobile mobile learning mlearning | IGNATIA WEBS MARCH 13, 2012 mLearning #research focus: new features of #html5 for future offline #mLearning What I found of immediate interest was their list of new, useful html5 features related to offline mLearning and semantic features - really nice: HTML5 provides a number of new features that almost all yield to the possibility to enrich HTML sites either by new communication mechanisms or by new presentation techniques. LocalStorage : consists in a hash table with 10Mb capacity to store values; these data are related to the Web application in online and offline mode. The full paper can be found here (English) at page 252 of the mLearn2011 proceedings. | IGNATIA WEBS SEPTEMBER 20, 2011 Choosing a free on- and offline #reference software: Zotero As my thesis is becoming a reality, I felt a need to reevaluate the online reference tools that are currently available and choose one I would use for the next couple of months (at least). After having a closer look at Mendeley , Zotero and Endnote , I decided that Zotero would be the tool for me. But I must admit it was a close shave with Mendeley. off to add more references to the Zotero library. | | | | | | | | | -

CLIVE ON LEARNING | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27, 2011 Talking about blended learning – part 4 – selecting media What value do offline media have in an online world? Part 4 In the fourth part of this interview, I address the following questions: What choices do you have when it comes to delivering your strategy? Why would you want to conduct a learning activity on a face-to-face basis? Surely online delivery is fast becoming your default choice? What about the telephone? What value can that have for learning? So our last consideration has been media. Why is that? Part 5 follows tomorrow. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Complete 43 min interview. blended learning MORE >> -
RAPID INTAKE | TUESDAY, MAY 10, 2011 Mobile Learning: Two Ways to Communicate With the SCORM LMS To create the SCORM package, you simply complete the following form and download the course, then move it to your LMS: Rapid Intake is also working on an offline delivery method that allows learners to download and take the entire course offline, then syncs to the LMS once the learner is back online (think about taking the course on an airplane with no Internet connection or out in the field for remote job sites). One of the biggest challenges facing mobile learning course authors today is how to communicate with the learning management system (LMS). More to come on that later. Offline capability When your learners are always on the go, in far-flung parts of the world, internet connections vary from excellent to un-reliable and even non-existent sometimes. So you need to support offline learning capability. The learner should download the course, go and learn in offline mode, take tests and synchronize the results when net is connected back. This can be done using Google Gears to some extent, or with the Harbinger Offline Player all the way up to SCORM compatible tracking. Catalog Management What does the learner see on logging in?
