Skillsoft and the wording of SumTotal right next to it, I wonder when it will be formally known as Skillsoft SumTotal or SumTotal by Skillsoft , rather than Skillsoft and SumTotal Systems, a Skillsoft company – whew, I’m out of breath just saying it. Can create games – you heard me right, GAMES.

One of the most interesting items which presents to me an unknown variable is CMI-5, a compliance standard (formally with AICC) now headed up by ADL. 4 Game Elements. Specifically: Ability to build games or some “game version” within the LMS – either via a built-in authoring tool or as a standalone feature.

There are few and I mean only a few who follow this pattern (example: Skillsoft), where the course library is the primary and the system secondary. If I was to compare the Big Dog Four – SuccessFactors, Saba, Cornerstone OnDemand and SumTotal by Skillsoft, Saba would win hands down. SumTotal by Skillsoft.

Ability to upload a course or courses from a 3rd party course/content provider (example: Wiley, Skillsoft, etc.). SCORM 2004 3rd edition, SCORM 2004 4th edition, AICC, PENS, xAPI, CMI-5). Game based learning in the system and if yes, can I change my avatar or customize it with look ? As long as it has one of these.

If it truly achieves its premise then it will be a game changer in the LMS space. Accepts any courses built in any content authoring tools that are SCORM & AICC compliant – so you can upload and sell your courses that you built in Articulate, Captivate, even open source authoring tools (but they must be standards compliant).
