Now, to arrive at a manageable number of alternatives, you have to sub-divide the market into categories: Rapid tools ( Articulate , Captivate , Atlantic Link ) as opposed to whatever the others are called ( Authorware , Lectora , etc.). When confronted by too much choice, consumers choose familiar options.

Why pay someone else $25,000 when you can buy Articulate or Captive for under $500 and do it yourself? This sounds like a bit of an overstatement to me.

Good online tools include Atlantic Link and Mohive - mind you, they're not cheap. I worked for several years with a UK tool called Accelerator and experienced first hand how easy it was to work with others to share assets and learning objects and to work together on creating and maintaining materials.
