It’s nothing new —just another step in the continual evolution we’ve seen since the early 1990s, when authoring tools were first introduced to help eLearning professionals create and deliver learning. Over the years, these tools have had to balance ease-of-use with the ability to create a robust learning experience.

They provided just enough to make us dangerous with HTML, Flash, Photoshop and Authorware. No, I do not use Authorware now, but it is hard to predict what will be an essential tool 10 years down the road. For me, I use Flash to develop games, but whether it is Flash or other game development tools get to know how to use them.

Sure, you can use the extensive list of tools on the market, but for those who want real power and complexity ala from the days of Authorware, pickings are slim. Celtix - Enables you to create storyboards and scripts. Professional Presenter X – comes with sim tool, assessment, capture tool, documents to flash tool, etc.

HTML5 output. Right now I am doing a survey on authoring tools (more on this at the end of the post) and so far 100% of all respondents state that HTML5 output is required in an authoring tool. I do believe that HTML5 output will continue to grow as an authoring tool feature. HTML5 templates. Audio Editing.
