Just as that market hysteria faded when sanity returned to the flower-loving public, trends in learning technology have come and gone. No LMS on the market contains blog and wiki features that can compete feature-by-feature against popular products such as WordPress and Mediawiki.

I figure between ELGG, mediawiki, MOODLE, Secondlife, and now Elluminate, we can get some serious educating done on the cheap. Teachers could compete on the open market for students. Anyone interested in starting a virtual school? Teachers could make a heck of a lot more money.and all would be right with the world.

For consumers in general, smartphones are number one in the market, then PGPs (Portable Game Players) and so on. Fastest growing markets for early adopters: tablets & PGPs. 35 tablets by the end of Q2 2011, on top of the 30+ already in the market. With a market that is extremely crowded, consolidation will happen.

In any other market, the goal is to be number one, yet for whatever reason, in this market when it comes to social learning, there are a significant number of vendors, who would rather just sit on the sidelines. Wikipedia that actually looks like Wikipedia – 100%, they use mediawiki kit – available for free.

MediaWiki API. They are not cutting edge, they do not see where the market needs to go or is going. They love to say they understand the market, you have that client angle, plus they believe their solution does not need to offer the capability, after all they know more than you do. Uh, forget that.
