Proof that you can create an amazing authoring tool without being based in the U.S. One of the trends I forsee in 2014 is an increase in the number of authoring tools enabling multilingual while creating a course. Initially I wasn’t going to post authoring tool rankings beyond the top ten, until July. 20 eLab - The user interface is intriguing and enables anyone to build a course, without having the typical “ooh that looks so lame” with some rapid content authoring tools.

Here now are the latest authoring tool trends (excluding the ones I posted in last week’s blog). Enables the course author to skin/brand their course with their own logo, colors, etc. . Many authoring tools give you limited color options and may/may not enable you to add your own logo. Allows courses that are being built in the authoring tool to be in another language beyond what used to be the standard norm of just English.

Because the industry as a whole is a lemming, I expect more vendors to come on board. Right now I am doing a survey on authoring tools (more on this at the end of the post) and so far 100% of all respondents state that HTML5 output is required in an authoring tool. I do believe that HTML5 output will continue to grow as an authoring tool feature. The numbers clearly indicate that is on the fast track for real growth in the coming year. .

Can add your own audio or use one of their audio tracks – which surprisingly were not bad, actually quite a few were good. It’s one big drawback – no support for SCORM, but hey, since it is ideal for sticking in to your course, rather than as a standalone authoring tool, it works.
