I'm actively engaged in all kinds of sites that can be roughly described as social networking. Add it to your Elluminate and WebEx profiles. My guess is that about 25% of the people I run into do not have a profile photo. It doesn't take a lot to add a profile photo, and it's fairly significant.

I have also presented recently at one of Steve Hargardon's live Elluminate global webinars, and have to say that the experience was very similar to the MOOC. MOOCs also host online discussion, solo and group activities and other learning activities designed to promote critical discourse, reflective actions and discursive learning.

This will allow more natural kinds of interactions in classroom settings, especially for things like breakout activities. Why the heck doesn't each tool – WebEx, Adobe Connect, Elluminate, etc. I got this horribly wrong in that it hasn't happened, but I still think that this will happen. It goes from a game to a social experience.

BigBlueButton is an active open source project that focuses on usability, modularity, and clean design -- both for the user and the developer. Besides taking up "personal" residence there (in a very smart and active community) you can start Amplify groups. Elluminate is a really nice tool but not open source.

We recorded the sessions directly off the web, i.e. outside of Elluminate. I was hoping to catch the spirit and activism that pulled the first BarCamp together in less than a week. People were quite active in the chat sessions. I want a system that’s as easy as tuning in a telephone conference call.

Firewalls and restrictive corporate environments caused us considerable grief: Yahoo Groups were restricted in some corporate environments, Elluminate did not work through several firewalls, we had to switch to WebEx and that really goofed up the start of the course; Yahoo Toolbar (for MyWeb ) couldn't be installed on locked desktops.

Activity is robust and students frequently comment about how much more connected they feel to the school and on how much easier it is to work on team projects.

Finally, if attendees were say given the ability to have their questions automatically kick-off a LinkedIn discussion, this would have generated the post-even activity you suggested. During the Elluminate sessions, we often had heady academic discourses by those running the session, sometimes allowing little time for feedback.
