What about AICC? Unless you purchased a tool that is only AICC compliant, which in that case, time to ditch it and get another one. If you purchased an AICC only, then you have to find a system that is AICC compliant. It can be SCORM too, but the AICC is the key. . What about PENS or some other compliance standard?

SCORM compliance and/or AICC – there are tools out there who support neither – but that is not the norm and there are a few tools out there who also support PENS. I love the ribbon style approach, the custom branding angle with your player, audio and video narration, SCORM/AICC – perfect for the masses.

There are three types of systems that slide under “learning platforms” The most common one supports PowerPoint, and videos and other content – and can track it, but they DO NOT support any version of SCORM, nor do they support AICC, PENS, Tin Can and so on. Same with training. .

All of that is a great use of time, since you end up with a quality piece of training content which is sure to drive behavioural change. The answer lies in PENS. PENS stands for Package Exchange Notification Service. For it to work, both the LMS and the authoring tool need to be compatible with PENS.

The ones who may not are those who identify themselves as “Training mgt systems and alike” – because they are really focused on the course authoring tool and are not a LMS in the true sense of the word. SCORM/AICC/PENS/IMS. A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features.

In 2005, PENS was launched by AICC but did not initially gain wide acceptance. In the past year, I have seen a wider number of vendors including the PENS course standard, which in my opinion, enables anyone who builds courses, a streamlined and fast process for publishing into a LMS/learning platform. If you are seeking PENS, LMS. AICC – slightly LMS – personally AICC should be on the next satellite to go into space never to be seen again, but that’s just me. Training their customers. Training is not a strong suite by any stretch. Unicorn Training. That said, it is a tie. My dog wins it.

What I am finding is that AICC is nearly gone in the LEP space (as it is with LMSs too), so if I was you, I’d seek SCORM, SCORM 1.2, PENS is nearly non-existent in this segment and CMI-5 is extremely new and few vendors have it – expect more in 2019. xAPI as my top three. And yet, they are a factor with the crowdsource.

At least SCORM support – Plenty still support AICC. Only a few support PENS, which is a shame, because it really does some very cool things. Do you see any items that are missing here, that in the consumer marketplace and even in training folks are seeking/wanting? Output to HTML5. 2004 (3rd edition) included.

Instructional designers who come from the paper based development or the creation of content for instructor led training. PENS was created in 2005 by AICC as a new interoperability standard. Same issue if your product outputs to only AICC, and my LMS vendor does not accept the AICC interoperability standard.
