At one time, you could be “certified” with AICC and yes certified with SCORM, but why would you want to be? I’ve never heard someone say, “Sheesh, I need an LMS that is SCORM certified, or what your authoring tool is not AICC certified? I still see course libraries that are only AICC. Here is my take.

AICC (Aviation Industry Computer-Based-Training Committee): The first official eLearning content standard, AICC was developed by the Aviation Industry CBT Committee in 1993 as a CD-ROM based standard. A predecessor to SCORM, AICC was difficult to work with and many steps were required to get content in the format running in an LMS.

What I am finding is that AICC is nearly gone in the LEP space (as it is with LMSs too), so if I was you, I’d seek SCORM, SCORM 1.2, Don’t worry though, I have that feature in Reports/Analytics ( time tracking). Course standards are course standards, and yes, you have the option to select CMI-5 and xAPI. Voodoo says hi).

The rise of mLearning has also driven adoption of the Tin Can xAPI eLearning content standard which can track far more learning activities than older standards like SCORM. One of the most interesting items which presents to me an unknown variable is CMI-5, a compliance standard (formally with AICC) now headed up by ADL. I see some growth with video courses as in the ability to not only have tracking beyond how many times they viewed it and how long it was viewed, but also specific chapters if you will. .
