Unfortunately, too many vendors in the e-learning space have failed to see the power and potential of this capability, and have decided to ignore them. However there are vendors who sell their API solution wrapped in a piece of software. Google code is open source code, so you can manipulate. Typically APIs are free.

Whether its by e-mail (my preferred choice), phone (often their preferred choice) or a combination, at the end of the day, it’s about the conversation. Low cost systems are typically SaaS based (then again, the LMS industry as a whole is more SaaS based than hosted on your servers). Any vendor, who includes a set storage fee, should be able to provide you a range of number of courses – with examples and video/audio files – if you plan to use them. AJ LMS - UI is average.

Integrate with SIS (Student information system) or alike. Most systems in the education space are still strongly focused on synchronous based learning. SaaS – I would prefer a vendor who offers SaaS only and not a SaaS or client hosted or G-D forbid client hosted only option. Blackboard Learn.

I like Grovo as a product, but their pitch as the original micro-learning platform (read in one press release) is a twist on reality – great marketing, but really? This is because any vendor/platform/system could provide micro-learning since the start of the LMS space in the late 90’s. Because they weren’t.
