Courses – regardless if self-paced (which they have always been, hence the reason around WBT) or synchronous-based, think the syllabus or stop and wait approach that EdTech – meaning K-12 and higher education use frequently. No one really says asynchronous or synchronous anymore, but they are/were the terms readily used.

There are already a couple of vendors, in the works with it, and at least one, Firmwater, who says they have added it to their learning system (I have been promised a demo). When the Internet, with web sites, first appeared, there were folks who raced to using it, were enthralled by it, and spent way too much time on it.

When I was putting together this post, I knew it would not be as simple as say, this is cohort-based learning, this is why it is so amazing, and why vendors are jumping to it, as well as folks in L&D. Again, I find vendors even in EdTech who are unaware what constitutes SBL. It is not as simple.

Are there vendors in the e-learning space who lack basic understanding around e-learning? Lastly, if the vendors, organizations and firms whose whole background, expertise and existence is tied to e-learning and they themselves are not fully understanding it, does this bode well for the industry as a whole? IMO, totally).

If they were a vendor who played in EdTech (K-12, HE) but also played into corporate and did so, not just by having clients find them, but actively through marketing, they were considered too. Strictly If the vendor was a custom shop building a system, off say Moodle or whatever code they are using that is open source? Strictly EdTech?

From a vendor perspective there was a huge impact, but what was odd, is that some vendors still are living in the past, as though, this is a minor blip, and in 2021, everything will go back as it was – corporate wise that is. Sorry to disappoint – but it won’t. . that needed a system.

Look today, at the number of folks who still hang onto ILT. They so buy into it, as the best way to learn X or Y, that there is a movement to add synchronous-based learning, back in the day, we referred to SBL as sticking the classroom teaching method online. One of my favorite early vendors was GeoLearning. Formal vs Informal.
