One of my favorite strategies when working with complicated branching and quizzing in projects is to turn off the playbar on key slides via the variable  cpCmdShowPlayBar  (assign with 0 to turn off, 1 to turn on). Choose  Quiz Preferences > Settings  and select  Hide Playbar In Quiz.
