PLE bargaining

Learning with e's

Those attending the PLE Conference found themselves quickly immersed in discussion, dialogue and debate over the nature and ethos of the personal learning environment. The Twitter stream alone went wild, and by midday on the second day there had been over 5000 messages inserted into the #PLE-BCN hashtag stream. Assessment and accreditation of learning were discussed, as was the curriculum. Image source Posted by Steve Wheeler from Learning with e's.

I Believe in the Importance of a Personal Learning Network

Tom Spiglanin

When I started using Twitter for my professional growth and development, I didn’t realize that I was also starting to build my personal learning network. I simply found myself tweeting at a learning and development conference using its hashtag and others began connecting with me. I hadn’t yet recognized the value of connectedness , but knew immediately that I was learning from each of these encounters. I even gave it my own name: “On-fire learning.”

Tin Can API & the Future of E-Learning

Learnnovators

“One small step for e-learning technology, One giant leap for the e-learning industry.” Tin Can API (or ‘Experience API’) is one of the most extensively discussed technical topics amongst learning professionals all over the world today. This is mainly because of the relevance it carries in today’s world of ‘Learning Transformation’. All informal learning is happening across multiple devices (such as desktops, tablets, mobile phones, etc.).

Learning Visions

Cammy Beans Learning Visions Musings on eLearning, instructional design and other training stuff. Tuesday, June 05, 2007 Personal Learning Earthquake Sometimes tectonic plates shift and earthquakes form cracks in the crust. My personal view of e-Learning is from the corporate side of the aisle. So the PLE conversation has been, for me, framed in terms of the LMS and tools. How do you make an LMS into a PLE? The care of a whole person.

The Performance Environment

Clark Quinn

I’ve represented the performance ecosystem in several ways in the past, and that process continues to occur. In the process of writing up a proposal to do some social learning strategizing for an organization, I started thinking about it from the performer perspective. Now, personal learning environments (PLE) is not a completely new concept, and quite a number of folks contributed their PLEs here.

Learning Visions

Cammy Beans Learning Visions Musings on eLearning, instructional design and other training stuff. Monday, June 11, 2007 Personalization does not equal Personal Ive been catching up this morning on all the recent PLE posts, particularly Tom Haskins recent entries. This got me thinking more about the words "personal" and "personalization". But that does not equal a Personal Learning Environment. And then my real life and learning begins.

Personalised learning

Learning with e's

I have been thinking a lot about personalised learning lately. Last night, during a panel discussion for the Plymouth Education Society, I made a statement that the current UK National Curriculum doesn't make a lot of room for personalised learning. This model patently doesn't work, because it fails to take into account the variations in performance and ability within year groups. Standardised assessment militates against personalised learning too.

#LearningIs personal

Learning with 'e's

We all learn differently. Everyone of us has individual needs and personal requirements. Unfortunately, most of us are products of education systems that are based on the industrial model of education which is far removed from personalised learning. The personalised learning movement continues to grow in influence. There is also a regular international conference dedicated to personalised learning environments. Noughties. but nice

Learning with e's

The first decade of the 21st Century was highly significant for personal learning. Such a vast array of new personal devices and web applications was introduced that have become so deeply ingrained in our everyday lives, many of us would probably feel at a loss if we were suddenly transported back to 1999. If we time jumped from then to 2009, the way we now communicate, learn, search for information, share content and consume entertainment would be unrecognisable.

Micro-Learning: Its Role in Formal, Informal and Incidental Learning

ID Reflections

What is micro-learning? What characteristics define micro-learning? In this post, I have looked at micro-learning from the point of view of efficacy as well as applicability. Microlearning deals with relatively small learning units and short-term learning activities. Generally, the term ''microlearning'' refers to micro-perspectives in the context of learning, education and training. Our employees are busy and want to learn on the go.”

Blurring the boundaries

Learning with e's

I'm increasingly conscious of the blurring of boundaries between formal and informal learning contexts. We spend much of our time in formal settings such as classrooms, training rooms and 'on the job' training, to learn the stuff that gets accredited through academic or vocational qualifications bodies. And yet, this generally accounts for only around 20 per cent of our lifelong learning time. 2000) Informal Workplace Learning.
