A personal learning environment refers to the tools, technologies, resources etc. By and large, this constitutes John’s Personal Learning Environment (PLE). Corporate Learning Management Systems must be empowered with features that enable such social learning, and thus add another dimension to employees’ PLEs.

This continues the discussion being had around PLE/PWLEs - see More Discussion on Personal Work Learning Environments for a bit of recap. Clearly this is a different use of PLE's than those outside the firewall, for free rangers, and for learning from everything of personal interest. And they are not, therefore, PLEs.

I was also asked why I didn't use the term PLE (Personal Learning Environment). The report goes on to define personal webs as self created and consisting of online tools that suit each individual's unique preferences, styles and needs. Sound like a PLE? I attended the first ever Personal Learning Environments conference in Barcelona, about 5 years ago, and spent three glorious days in the sun, learning from others about the PLE and how it would revolutionise learning. We were all excited about the potential of PLEs, their subversive nature and their inherent informality.

I referred to it in my last post and promised I would revisit it. tools are available for all learners to choose and use to support their own self organised learning. Tags: PLE computer based education Web 2.0 And then you buy it and use it. It becomes yours. But is it really that deeply personal?
