Back in the early 2000′s, LMSs often had content mgt features built within their system, but called themselves learning management systems. Synch with accounting software ala Quicken, etc. One important data point here – the term “LCMS” is on its deathbed. Dropbox, box.net or similar – 37.1%.

2000′s – HD-DVD shows up, so does Blu-Ray. People who bought HD-DVD players – learn that they make great flying objects out of five story buildings. Video in e-learning means something quite different than video in its usual term. The masses start buying them in droves in 1998. Blu-Ray wins.

If a RCAT vendor tells you they have been in business for over 10 years, they are somewhat misleading, since WBT courses really didn’t start to hit the mark until 2000 and then you have limited choices on how to build. E-Learning 24/7. That was then. Macromedia Authorware and similar products. Macromedia Director.
