One of the most important skills is basic image editing. Because of this, an image editing application should be in your tool chest. Today we’ll look at five free desktop applications that you can use for basic image editing. You don’t get layers and some of that type of editing, but you do get a lot of image enhancing features.

Create a click and zoom effect to view images. Use PowerPoint as an image editor. Tips on manipulating images in PowerPoint. Get more out of the free images you get from Microsoft Office. Create a faded image. Make text stand out by filling it with an image. Ungroup clip art and apply image filters.

Stock Image Sites. There are a dozens of stock image sites where you can buy low cost images. For elearning courses, you don’t need to buy the high resolution images. There are many sites that give away open source content or images under creative commons licenses. I covered this in more detail in a previous post.

So what typically happens is that we create elearning courses that either all look the same or have a discordant look where the images and typography are a hodgepodge of whatever we have available. Since I had no time to build the graphics I wanted, I decided to change the huddled family image to a framed photo of a family.
