Removing Stock Image Backgrounds If you have Microsoft Office 2010, you can use the new Background Removal feature found in PowerPoint, Word and Outlook to remove backgrounds easily. You don't need to have Microsoft Office 2010 to remove stock image backgrounds. Simplifying the images can make them easier on the eye.

Do not use clipart. Use only photos. I learned everything I know from reading The Non-Designer's Design Book , Microsoft Manual of Style , and other books and classes along the way. Same rule applies for ALL CAPs. Bolding and underlining all caps is THE WORST. Same rule applies to italics. Alignment means something.

Do not use cartoonish clipart , what does it add (distraction). If you need an image to support a point, use real images, you can download many images from Microsoft's clipart page. Just make sure to only use 'photos'. But I don't mean to include photos just for decoration.

But assuming you’ve determined that using some music is a good design decision for your project… Try stock photo sites you already use. A lot of stock photo sites also have music and sound effects. The Microsoft clipart gallery, for example, has perfectly acceptable sound effects but I’ve never found a use for their music.

There are several sources for free images, but I usually start with Microsoft Office Clipart because the options are plentiful and the image vendor is tagged in the photo – in case I want to blow my entire $1.50 You’ll find attribution requirements detailed under the Additional Information section on each photo.

Given our budget, conducting a custom photo-shoot was out of the question. On the other end of the spectrum, we also didn’t want the unprofessional feel of using mismatched clipart. In my opinion, it matters less what style of image (realistic photos, clipart, etc) and more that the themes match throughout your course.
