Other options were universities who went online, via Lotus Notes. Heck, I was in a doctorate program, whereas the majority of the ‘courses’ was via Lotus Notes, the other was ILT. I used it in 1999, to teach a 100% online journalism course in the University of Nebraska system. It was a university. So, no 640 there.

Other online universities sounded like brick and mortar institutions: University of Northern Washington, for example. My offering was the first online journalism class in the University of Nebraska system – a result of a grant from the system itself. Popular ones included Lotus Notes, Blackboard and WebCT.

IBM I only briefly mentioned how other organizations are adopting these tools in a big way - The Wall Street Journal - June 18 2007 - social networking at IBM 26,000 registered blogs.

Some SBL classes have tests – timed or must be completed by Saturday for example. I have seen SBL courses – i.e. classes used with Lotus Notes, so you do not have to have a LMS to have a SBL. Some SBL classes have webinar or web meeting like setting so you can see the instructor present on the topic of the day or week.
