There were three themes to the conference: mobile, games, and video. Mobile was present, happily, and continues to evolve. Some of it was pretty dumb – just content or flash cards as learning augmentation – but there were interesting applications. Flash is both a development environment and a delivery platform.

Apple missing the small picture

I’ve previously discussed the fight between Apple and Adobe about Flash (e.g. Frankly, I haven’t missed Flash on my iPhone or iPad. They’d like to support their mobile workers with smartphones regardless of OS, but when they’re that 1-few person shop, they aren’t going to have the development resources.

The must-read for mobile designers, The Zen of Palm , shows data collected from years ago on the early Palm devices ( Figure 1.3 ) which showed the difference between usage of desktops versus handhelds. So, in a sense is the tablet a mobile device? Flash could’ve been it, but the performance problems have been a barrier.

Mobile, systems, any technology touch. You could even send your learners out to do a flash mob ;). My short recommendations: Developers need to start thinking about instrumenting everything. Everything people touch should report out on their activity. And then start aggregating this data. Have folks take a photo of an example of X.
