You can find free content all over the internet and you can purchase 3rd party content from a content provider. 3rd party content providers are not new. Heck, even before we had online learning, and courses were CBT (Computer Based Training), you could find 3rd party course providers. . Who remembers NetG?

Most of it came, via 3rd party providers, or what we referred to as “boutique shops” – think custom development (fee-based) that someone, company, government, institution, and so forth hired to create a course or courses. ISP (Internet Service Providers) fees were high. Oh, and access wasn’t free.

When they went course aggregator, I saw them as a nice alternative to Skillsoft who was off acquiring other course providers including NetG and then down the road, Element K. It wasn’t great or okay, good, but there were people who liked it.

Sadly, one day I called, they were out of business, sold to the nefarious NetG – who likely placed them in a huge warehouse next to the remains of a famous pharaoh. Eliminate redundancy and write it as you would if you were providing training to your employees or customers or both. Remember The system itself for my audience?

Too many times I find that when talking about content, 3rd party content providers, content driven strategies from learning system vendors (which is quite hot) and marketplaces place more of a general approach to buying and pushing it. If your learning system provider offers content, take a look at it. The Grocery Store.

Perhaps the content provided educational value or offered the ability to see into the future and what is possible. Created by a 3rd party provider – a Skillsoft or Wiley for example. Created by the LMS provider – they build custom content. Before we jump into the topic, the blog will now be published every Friday.

This is a story about a one-time giant in the 3rd party off-the-shelf content providers. ” This was due to the buying spree that Skillsoft conducted in the early to mid-2000s where they bought up quite a few 3rd party off the shelf vendors including NetG (a big player back then) and Element K (strong player back in the day). .
