The best system for the education market is Moodle. Moodle can be a worthwhile system but it requires heavy customization, dedicated IT person who has Moodle skill sets (ideal), in-house support (because when end users can’t figure it out – they will come calling YOU) and costs that many folks fail to realize.

With a hosted solution, the vendor’s servers are able to tested to withstand scenarios like this. Your servers crash during the business day for whatever reason, while end users are on the system; hosted servers rarely if ever crash. That said, why is this happening: A significant (over 90%) of vendors are holding off this year and at least part of next year from optimizing their solution to the iPad. While I cannot say who they are, there are a couple LMS vendors that are ripe for acquisition, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see them in new hands by Q2 2011.

Navigation is clearly visible throughout the system, and again the focus is ease of use. As you know, you have once chance to get them in there and use the system, otherwise they are gone. Reports are canned but an ad-hoc feature does exist and the key here, exists within the system, so whatever your needs are they are met.

If your employee or customer cannot figure out how to move around the front end of the system (what they see) then no matter what you place on the screen, they won’t use it. Equally horrible, is that some companies are still using old versions of IE or an outdated computer system with Windows 2000 on it.
