Great summary of ideas. Belatedly, Im thinking that there are relatively easy ways to enable learners to have cake or to eat it as they see fit. Ray Sims has written a great summary on Writing Learning Objectives , with citations to some good resources, including Vicki Heaths post Learning Objectives: Writing Learning Outcomes So They Matter. At least from the instructional designers and the businesss point of view. Learning objectives clarify exactly what it is youre trying to teach.
