For learners to participate and acquire new skills and knowledge, there are two methods of online training to pay attention to; synchronous and asynchronous eLearning. Synchronous eLearning. Most of us are familiar with different types of eLearning from enrolling in classes and seminars that utilize virtual classrooms.

That said, I’d like to share some of my ideas about how we need to change what we do to address on-demand learning and performance needs during design, development, and deployment of a training program. A current project I am working on is a national program for training workers in basic bulk propane plant operations.

I started thinking about this during a program on Accelerated Learning at the Minnesota Chapter of the International Society of Performance Improvement (MNISPI). Then I remembered a series of highly successful training programs designed to address the three learning styles at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. He said it was great.

The title was “Expanding ROI in Training Programs Using Scriven, Kirkpatrick, and Brinkerhoff,” which sounds pretty academic. Implementing his model does not include gathering data that would address program improvement efforts. But it wasn’t. According to McGoldrick, that is where Brinkerhoff’s Success Case Method (SCM) comes in.

This effects workers in northern states more often than in the south so we have made that point abundantly clear throughout the program. Most recently, Ive been working on training programs for the propane industry. Auto-refrigeration is most likely to occur when temperatures outside are low, say below 40 degrees. It is amazing ho.
