As social learning continues to grow, LMS/LCMS vendors are taking various approaches. While some view themselves as “social learning&# savvy, incorporating various components, others seem to see themselves as just sitting on the sidelines. It is not as though, social learning is going to disappear.

In the webinar, I brought up how LMS vendors were themselves perpetuating the myth of the bad things of social media (which is a necessary component of social learning), so, rather than identify the facts and data to potential clients who are concerned about social media and thus social learning, they instead do not include it in their system.

Social media sites that focus on gamers are in the top twenty of most visited sites. PGP (Portable game players) are listed number three only behind smartphones and tablets for mobile devices sold. Online gaming, and not just Farmville on Facebook, is exploding. Look at the numbers of WOW (World of Warcraft) players.

You can use either your own 3rd party content authoring tool and upload it into the “Cloud&# and then wherever you are, output either to your LMS, or onto Moodle or even WordPress (they have a plug in for that) OR place the course in Facebook or nearly any solution that accepts APIs. That is what one senior exec said to me, the other day when it came to social learning. Even with slideshare, you can actually post e-books and other documents, so it follows suit in a system. LMS/LCMS/Learning Portal (commercial or free), e-readers, any mobile device(i.e. Incorporate Social Q/A. Not at all.
