FT- Another product I liked in 2012 and still like in 2013. I’m always amazed at some of the names vendors come up with for authoring tools. Not with Publisher.

Because the industry as a whole is a lemming, I expect more vendors to come on board. In just the past month, I have seen quite a few vendors add this capability in their product – and for the most part they are all RCAT products. Well some vendors have more than 15 come with their product. HTML5 templates.

Equation tool – I’ve seen more vendors add this thing – and unless you are in education I can’t see why you would use it. Module templates. 2 Articulate Storyline. Themes, interactions. Collaboration. Screen capture and recording. Learning notes – nice. Scenario branching. Scenario builder.

LMSs – Finally vendors took notice. Authoring Tools – With only a small sample of vendors that are SaaS based, pickings are slim. Despite overall consumer demand (not just within e-learning) for tablets, and numbers showing that tablets are outselling notebooks, e-learning vendors as whole are sitting back and waiting.

Yes there are vendors doing some new stuff, okay many, but a few items are not new, rather they have been around for a long time. SaaS boost – Finally more vendors are on the appropriate path for their consumers; but the big folks are not – why? There I said it and honestly I can’t believe I said it. Want a stunner?

I am still surprised on how vendors who are offering assessment only tools are staying in the game. Templates – growing at quick clip. Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. One vendor focuses only on Blackberry (not just Playbook but their smartphone like product).
