Along the way, a lot of the LCMS products on the market have become more about a kind of authoring approached with content stored in a database that is transformed into courseware. Sound familiar?

Digital Asset Management – LCMS, ECM and SharePoint

Living near Hollywood and the many different production companies and studios, I've talked to and worked on several projects that were digital asset management systems. Does the LCMS already provide this for you? By the way, my impression is also that the digital asset management that comes with LCMS solutions is pretty limited.

I also suggested looking at LCMS products. It cites quite a few repositories and briefly mentions " Burrokeet is an Open Source Software tool that assists in the creation of Learning Objects from existing content. This is something I'm not familiar with. And looking at SCORM / SCOs.

How do you integrate with other tools and databases? Does the LMS help with eCommerce? How long does it take to select and implement?

Direction of eLearning - Emergence or Big System

Most LMS products (out-of-the-box) require you to search, register and then launch the course. If you want the content to be searchable through your Intranet search mechanism, most LMS products get in your way (even though the content may be easily indexed by the search mechanism). A great example is accessing an eLearning course.
