Oh, and not the first vendor I’ve seen this route, but that was more than a decade ago. Well, I guess for ILT, and even then as time has evolved, it hasn’t. There are vendors who pitch they have it, and there are folks who oversee L&D who still believe in it. One Term that Should be Kicked to the Curb.

They involved talent management, “hello and goodbye” with vendors, social learning, upswing in mobile learning, new feature sets in the authoring tool space, flat lining in web conferencing and standalone platforms. They plan on launching a version next year on smartphones. In 2011, I saw quite a few items that resonated.

How many of you have seen vendors respond to your questions? A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors). Smart App for TV – One LMS vendor. SCORM/AICC/PENS/IMS.

That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. I see way too many vendors think a web site is all they need and people will find them.

Also SCORM 1.2 & AICC. Sure, other vendors will say you can do that too, but you have to open each object file to get it. Content Authoring tools that offer their own LMS – albeit it is a lite version, which only accepts their content authoring tool courses. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature.

File repository – another reason to boot LCMSs once and for all, this feature includes version updates and some analytics. Many people today prefer 3rd party authoring tools and in fact, I recommend that route rather then using a vendor’s built in authoring tool. SCORM, AICC. IMO, not a big deal.
