Is PowerPoint the most widely used tool for eLearning development? It seems that everywhere I go in the eLearning world I run into PowerPoint. Most of the new authoring tools either use PPT as their backbone or offer the ability to import slides. Using these new tools meant that I had to start using PPT. Everyone has PPT.

PowerPoint is not E-Learning and shouldn’t be used as your course tool/development – For whatever reason, there are people who have been around online learning for years, who still see PPT as a means for the creation of content – i.e. courses. PPT is boring. Who knows. I mean what is visceral anyway?

Transitions, Animations, Views – I am fine using it once, but again, new product-new version, so why I am still seeing PowerPoint within this product to such a point, that TAV are exactly the same as in PPT? If you are creating a product geared towards ID and e-learning developers it should not be as easy as using PowerPoint.

PowerPoint – Ability to integrate or use PPT in your courses. Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. Listen, Authorware is dead, so why create a product that is trying to bring it back to life with your own product? It isn’t. Disgusting.

Okay, we can use a PowerPoint, whalla, online! The rise of rapid content authoring tools, specifically the explosive growth of Articulate Studio, which in all sense of the word was nothing more than a PPT converter, allowed anyone, to create an “online course” ID skills not needed. Not a problem, we can go PDF.

In the authoring tool world: PowerPoint focused authoring tool, Basically you know PPT, love it and want the ability to build within it and then convert your PPT to a Course. Nor would I select a tool that is really a PowerPoint converter. In the housing world that would be whether you want a townhouse, apt.,

Is it PowerPoint converted to Flash? Microsoft Word converted to Flash? Macromedia Authorware and similar products. While some could argue that Authorware was a RCAT, I disagree. PowerPoint or Word converted to Flash, instant, virtually no add-ons, i.e. additional learning objects. RCAT Categories.
