Back when I first started developing e-learning courses, I used Macromedia's Authorware. For more interactive elements, I used Flash and imported the SWFs into Authorware. Here is a tutorial on How to Add Basic SCORM code to a Flash Movie from Pipwerks.

Development Tools I Would Learn If I Were You - June's Big Question

They provided just enough to make us dangerous with HTML, Flash, Photoshop and Authorware. No, I do not use Authorware now, but it is hard to predict what will be an essential tool 10 years down the road. Give them a try along with any tutorials available. Five years is tough to predict too, but I will attempt it anyway.
