And it's interesting here locally that the March and April ISPI Atlanta and ASTD Atlanta chapter meetings both focus on learning measurement. And the May ISPI Atlanta topic is 'Predictive Evaluation.'

One of the most frequent questions I get is how to find an elearning job. I’d also like to mention that these tips work if you’re looking for a new job or if you’re trying to position yourself in your current organization. Usually the person with the most experience and best qualifications gets the job. Here’s a bonus tip.

If you aren’t valued, you’d probably not have a job. If you delivered it on time and to your customer’s satisfaction then trust that because you still have a job, you’re proving your value. Then create an environment that puts them in position to make the types of decisions they’d make in the real world. Example: A customer wants to buy a new widget. Details coming.

Some would argue that if there’s no performance element, then it should just be a job aid or PDF. If you’re interested in a workshop in your area, have your local ISPI or ASTD chapter contact me. The last thing you want is a decision-making interaction when all you need is a few screens of content. That’s a valid argument.

I’m responding to this question from the perspective of a person looking to get a job in the field of e-learning vs. a person who knows little about the term. I think one place to start is to look at the competencies and skills needed for various “e-learning&# jobs. Join e-learning associations (local, national, global).
