Wikipedia has a page devoted to the role of a BA and there are umpteenth other websites that define the role too. I have attended a Captivate Training session where many attendees were SMEs from different orgs. What does an ID do that a Business Analyst (BA) cannot do? A BA’s role today seems to be as volatile and evolving as an ID’s.
