Yesterday I created a screen cast on LinkedIn for Finding Expertise . Today, I saw a post on our Free - Web 2.0 for Learning Professionals where someone said: I am currently trying to find a SME experienced with Moodle (a CMS/LMS) and WizIQ (synchronous web class technology). I posted a query about this to several of the groups that I've joined on LinkedIn and have received about a dozen responses so far.

As part of the Web 2.0 for Learning Professionals , I've created a couple of screen casts showing very quickly how I use LinkedIn to find expertise. This is my first time using Jing. Let me know what you think. FYI - the Jing object does not appear in the RSS feed. Whoops, I clicked too fast on publish - I will try to get additional screen casts posted soon.

If you read my blog much, you know that I use LinkedIn quite a bit to help me find experts and expertise. You can see how I do this in my posts/screencasts LinkedIn Searching for Experts and Expertise and LinkedIn Answers to Get Help.... And, I sometimes wonder what I did before I had LinkedIn as a resource. But, here's what has recently dawned on me. When I do a group search, the same effect is there about only being able to tap into 2nd degree.

could have covered: Search and Browser Short Cuts . The reality is that management consultants are very much concept workers and as such have to shift how they perform their work and how they serve their customers. I went through examples similar to LinkedIn for Finding Expertise and Searching for Expertise - LinkedIn Answers to show the basics of how LinkedIn works. This was more about getting help with questions.

Now Davenport is at it again with a post (on his blog no less - I guess he doesn't want to be productive himself) - LinkedIn Is Not a Social Network. In this post, he says: I've been on LinkedIn for several years. I never initiate a "connection," but I dutifully accept invitations to connect, even when I don't know the person.... Occasionally people I know have asked me through LinkedIn for access to my connections -- which an email notifies me of -- and I wonder why they didn't just send me an email themselves. It's a funny world. He never initiates a connection?

I belong to numerous groups on LinkedIn, some I am active in, some less so. With all the buzz on social media and informal learning, I thought I would take a closer look at my groups and identify the types of discussions that are generating the most activity. This is with the intent of gauging how people are using these groups and perhaps what information is being shared.
Here are the LinkedIn e-learning/ISD groups in which I belong. The number of members are in parentheses.
