He cites a USA Today article which says, Students "dont like it for activities that can be done in a real classroom, such as lectures or slide shows. A study is cited in which researchers looked at brain activity while subjects learned how to build a structure with Tinker Toys. Not surprisingly, a lot more activity was seen if test subjects were watching to learn (anticipating that they were to do the task later) vs. watching only. Weed out the fluff.

Mixed visual-auditory stimuli have an underadditive effect, so that if you have to do both at the same time, total brain activation goes down. So its interesting to think about this underadditive effect where "total brain activation goes down" if presenting in both visual and auditory at the same time. Im way out of practice.

Im a major geek, yet I avoid Second Life and continue to be skeptical about its use in elearning. This is a main way of staying connected to friends. A couple of people also had MySpace accounts.

The next project Im about to take on is going to be more of a just-in-time performance support tool. If you train the model (and I'll bet there is one), you don't have to train all the activities because it's inferable from the model.
