I wouldn’t call it pondering rather I would call it a huge misnomer in the entire authoring tool industry, course development industry – with vendors here – when it comes to course standards. I’ve even seen it with LMS vendors. I still see course libraries that are only AICC. Here is my take.

I felt that having awards only for learning systems, wasn’t enough, because off-the-shelf content plays a huge role. In all seriousness, without content you wouldn’t need a learning system of any sort, just give folks binders of paper (like the old days). After all, without content what do you have?

The spin is that you can accrue points by reading an article, taking a course, leaving comments, ranking content, completing an assessment and so on – varies among vendors. but in the e-learning world. Another super example of the video dilemma goes back to the sharing of video with friends, posting it on sites and so on.

Maybe you scored it via Wiley, but in many possibilities you purchased the content thru your LMS vendor. It’s much easier than say going directly to the content provider, buying it from them and then having them talk to your LMS vendor to put it in for you (which, honestly you should do, because it will save you money).

Certifications are doable from big name vendors such as Amazon, Google, Cisco, Microsoft and more. Share Link – I debated about listing this in poor, because I still see zero value in this – other vendors do it too, and I see zero value in that as well. Percipio though can accept AICC, SCORM, xAPI and CMI-5 (win!).

This interactive video example is what can be done on a minimal budget. I just learned of Google’s AutoDraw where you draw on screen and AI interprets each line as you do so and displays a toolbar of images. For example, sketch two circles side by side and a line connecting them, AutoDraw may interpret that as a pair of eyeglasses.
